Built in the 1940s, the "Die Höfe" neighbourhood is one of NEULAND's oldest housing estates in the city centre of Wolfsburg. Now NEULAND is making this listed ensemble fit for the future. The pilot project at Schillerstraße 7-9 shows how listed building status and energy efficiency can be combined.

The original leaded double windows are being replaced with new, insulated wooden windows that are identical in appearance to the historical model. The roof is being upgraded with rafter insulation. The façade is being covered with mineral plaster with insulating properties. By combining flats, eight spacious units with modern floor plans are being created. New balconies offer a view of the green inner courtyard.

Monument preservation and climate protection combined

Energy-efficient renovation is particularly challenging in listed buildings. In Schillerstraße, NEULAND is proving that it can be done: following complete modernisation, the building now meets the KfW 70 EE standard.

Before the renovation began, sample windows were installed in an empty flat and assessed together with the monument preservation authorities. The new double-wing wooden windows with insulated glazing blend harmoniously into the historic façade. The findings from this pilot project will be incorporated into the further upgrading of the "Die Höfe" neighbourhood.
